Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 19, 2026

1. Introduction

Welcome to Car Catcher ("we", "our", or "us"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our iOS app, downloaded from the Apple App Store, and related services. By using Car Catcher, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

2. Information We Collect

  • Account Information: Email address and display name when you register.
  • Profile Data: Optional username and profile photo you choose to upload.
  • Car Spot Photos: Photos you take or upload through the app to log car sightings.
  • Usage Data: Game progress, XP, collections, leaderboard scores, and streaks.
  • Subscription & Payment Information: All purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store — we never see or store your card details. We use RevenueCat, a subscription management service, to validate your subscription status; RevenueCat receives an anonymized user identifier and purchase receipt data, not your payment details.
  • Analytics Data: Anonymized usage events (e.g. features used, session length) to help us improve the app. No personally identifiable information is included.

3. Account Sign-In

In the iOS app you create an account with your email address and a password, verified by a one-time code sent to your email. Where third-party sign-in options such as "Sign in with Apple" or "Sign in with Google" are offered, we use only the email address the provider supplies (which for Apple may be a private relay address) to create and manage your account. We do not share this information with third parties beyond what is necessary to operate the app.

4. Camera & Photo Library

Car Catcher requests access to your camera and photo library through standard iOS permission prompts, solely to allow you to photograph and upload cars you spot. You can change these permissions at any time in Settings > Privacy & Security on your device. Photos are uploaded to our cloud storage and used only to power the car identification and collection features. We do not share your photos with third parties except as required to operate the AI identification service.

How your photos are stored: each photo is given its own long, randomly generated web address. Your photos are not listed publicly and cannot be browsed or searched by other users, but anyone who has the exact address for a photo can view it. Treat a photo link you share as public. If you delete a spot or your account, the photo is removed from our storage.

5. How We Use Your Information

  • To operate and improve the Car Catcher game experience.
  • To identify vehicles in photos using AI vision technology.
  • To display leaderboards and social features among users.
  • To manage your subscription and free trial via Apple In-App Purchase.
  • To send you important service-related communications.
  • To analyze anonymized usage patterns and improve app performance.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We may share data with:

  • Apple: Payment processing for subscriptions is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store.
  • RevenueCat: Receives an anonymized user identifier and App Store receipt data to validate and manage your subscription.
  • AI providers: Photo data may be sent to AI vision APIs solely for car identification.
  • Analytics providers: Anonymized, aggregated usage data only.
  • Law enforcement: If required by applicable law.

No cross-app tracking: Car Catcher does not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies, and does not use the iOS advertising identifier (IDFA) or serve third-party advertising.

7. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You may delete your account at any time from the Profile page, which will permanently remove all your spots, XP, and personal data within 30 days. Anonymized analytics data may be retained in aggregated form after deletion. Subscription and purchase records are maintained by Apple and RevenueCat in accordance with their own policies; deleting your account does not cancel an active subscription — manage that in your App Store account settings.

8. Children's Privacy

Car Catcher is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9. Security

We use industry-standard encryption and security practices to protect your data. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.

10. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. You can delete your account and all associated data directly from the Profile page in the app. For other requests, contact us at the email below.

11. California Residents (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):

  • Right to Know: You may request disclosure of the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you.
  • Right to Delete: You may request deletion of your personal information. You can do this directly in the app via the Profile page.
  • Right to Opt-Out of Sale: We do not sell your personal information.
  • Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your CCPA rights.

To exercise these rights, contact us at support@carcatcherapp.com.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
